The IC-F4001 requires no special training to operate and is easy to use. The large size of the knobs and buttons are user friendly and allow for easy use even while wearing gloves due to their non-slip, positive action design.
Easy to hear in noisy surroundings
A powerful 800mW of audio output is delivered from the large 45mm speaker made possible by the built-in bridge-tied load (BTL) amplifier. This radio is known to transmit loud and intelligible audio even in the noisiest of surroundings.

The new high efficiency FET feature of the IC-F4001 series provides 20 hours of operating time (with the BP-265, 2000mAh battery pack) by reducing consumption current. When used with the BP-264 battery pack, the IC-F4001 series allows for 14* hours of operating time.

Weather resilient and durable with military ruggedness
The IC-F4001 series is a compact radio with a height of only 111mm (43⁄8 inch), and is tested to be resilient against dust and water (equivalent to IP54 and 11 categories of MIL-STD-810 environmental test). The IC-F4011 series is rugged and built to last!
Hands-free operation with internal VOX capability
The internal VOX capability of this radio allows for hands-free operation. A compatible headset with a plug adapter cable (OPC-2004) is optional and can be used with this radio. There is also an adjustable VOX gain and VOX delay time.
Selective calling, quiet stand-by and other useful functions
The 2-Tone and 5-Tone signalings allow for handy functions such as selective calling and quiet stand-by when programmed. Useful functions such as the "stun" function disables a radio over the air and the "revive" function restores it.
Scan features
With the priority scan feature you can monitor up to two priority channels while you scan the other non-priority channels. The talk back functions and Tx channel enable you to respond quickly even while scanning.
